Mike M. Wins The Memorial Tournament!

Uniques make the difference when the favorites mail it in...

The Rule 20-6 Golf Pool Tournament #7 trophy.Four of the top 5 players this week had 3rd place Dustin Johnson and T4's Matt Kuchar and Rory McIlroy, including Mike M., but Mike had 2 key unique picks, T11 Tony Finau and T20 Kyle Reifer, and those 2 made the difference and gave Mike his first win and third cash of the year.  He finished $48,523 ahead of Dan.  Dan did not have Kuchar, but he did have T4 J.B. Holmes as a unique, plus another key unique, T11 Charl Schwartzel, but one less cut-maker than Mike.  I ended up 3rd, $93,812 behind Dan.  Steve found the money bubble, $28,135 short of a third straight cash.

Steve moved into 1st in the Spring Season standings.  Bill fell one spot to 2nd but trails by just under $115k.  Mike M. moved up one spot to 3rd, a bit less than $115k behind Bill.  I'm now in the #4 position.  Two tournament to go and the top 5 are separated by about $675k and the top 7 are less than $1.2 million apart.

Mike M. moved into the top spot in the "TMC" race.  He leads me by a little less than $263k.  Steve is in 3rd, around $471k behind me and $206k or so ahead of 4th place Jordie.  About $945k separate 1st and 5th and just over $1.16 million is the difference between the top 7.  The $10 million U.S. Open is the last event in this pool, so things could change dramatically.

Take a week off.  You're going to need it because in about 10 days we head to the only spot in the Pittsburgh area that's not total dreck, Oakmont C.C. and the 2nd major of the year, The U.S. Open.  There's a lot of U.S. Open history at Oakmont; Hogan in 1953, Jack and Arnie's playoff in 1962, Johnny Miller's final round 63, Ernie's first major in 1994 beating Monty and Loren Roberts in a playoff, Tiger not coming through down the stretch in 2007... even Paula Creamer winning in 2010.  This is a classic U.S. Open course and I'm sure they'll have it playing fast with tight fairways and heavy rough.  Manly golf.  The "TMC" title will be on the line and it will be "moving week" for the Spring Season race.  Summer golf is about to begin.

Get those picks in on time.

Later,
