The British Open Picks Are Up!

Who let in all these foreigners...?

Let's Get It On! - BRITISH OPEN SPECIAL! - The first person to read this and send me an email before the end of the tournament will get a $2 credit on their account! The picks and round one standings for the year's third major are up on the site.  We chose 35 different golfers. Majorless Lee Westwood is this week's favorite, picked 12 times.  U.S. Open champ Rory McIlroy is the 2nd most popular linkster, showing up on 11 teams.  World number one and last week's Scottish Open champ Luke Donald made the cut for 10 players.  Seven of us think Sergio will make some putts.  Smilin' Matt Kuchar got the nod 6 times.  Jason Day and Charl Schwartzel were chosen 5 times each.  Martin Kaymer and Gray-me McDowell are both four-baggers.  The treys are Ross Fisher and Padraig Harrington.  Nick Watney, Retief Goosen, Justin Rose and Steve Stricker are all deuces.

Twenty unique picks.  Mike M. has 5 of'em.  Dave B. has 3.  Chris, Hugh, Dan and Mike D. have 2 each.  Jordie, Steve, Bill and Dave A. have 1 each.  Randy, Brian, Elise and I could not find a unique this week.

Three clear favorites then we don't know what the hell to do... lots of uniques, deuces and treys will keep the standings interesting.  Of the 15 non-unique picks, three of them are Americans.  I count 11 U.S. players as uniques, so 14 of the 35 golfers picked are Americans.  The ESPN and Golf Channel taking heads like to say, "It's such an international game today...".  For the most part that's true, but I'm still calling bullshit.  Unlike them, the TV heads, we know what we are doing and we picked Americans in 21 out of 98 possible spots (14 x 7).  And 5 of those 21 were carried forward from the AT&T due to deadline issues.  U.S. players just aren't doing it on the course.  They need to quit making bad music videos (see the "Other Stuff" page on the site) and win some majors and start beating up on some "feriners".  Maybe one of them will do it this week, but the ones we picked aren't looking too strong.  Actually none of our golfers are looking like champions at the moment.  Regardless of the lack of the good guys near the top right now, it's still the British Open... wind, rain, funky bounces... you know damn well it's gonna be a good one...

Let's get it on!

Later,
